Gurmukhi script (Gathbhuvi script) is a script in which the Punjabi language written.

Gurmukhi means emanating from the mouth of the Gurus. Surely this word must have been a sign of ‘speech’, because there is no relation of script with the mouth. Gurus, under their influence, introduced an Indian script in Punjab.

There are three vowels and 32 consonants in this script.

Other vowels have been made by adding quantities to vowels. Their names are Uda, Aaya, Idi, Sasa, Haha, Kaka, Khakha etc. The last letter is Dada. The remaining letters till (V) have the same sequence as in the Devanagari alphabet.
