Hindi ScriptPronunciationMeaning
मेरा नाम ___ हैMera naam ___ haiMy name is ___
आप कैसे हैं?Aap kaise hain? How are you? (formal)

💡 Practice: Say "Mera naam [your name] hai. Main [your country] se hoon." out loud 5 times. This is the most important sentence you will ever say in Hindi.
Day 3

Essential Pronouns

Hindi ScriptPronunciationMeaning
मैंMainI
तुम / आपTum / AapYou (informal / formal)
वहVohHe / She / It
हमHumWe
वेVeThey
यहYehThis
💡 Important: Always use "आप (Aap)" with elders, strangers and people you respect. Using "तुम (Tum)" with someone older can seem impolite.
Day 4

Family Vocabulary

Hindi ScriptPronunciationMeaning
माँMaaMother
पिताजीPitajiFather
भाईBhaiBrother

दादीDaadiGrandmother (paternal)
दादाDaadaGrandfather (paternal)

1एकEk
2दोDo
3तीनTeen
4चारChaar
5पाँचPaanch

💡 Practice: Count out loud while doing everyday tasks — climbing stairs, counting items at the grocery store, telling the time. Repetition in context makes numbers stick fast.
Day 6

Essential Question Words

Hindi ScriptPronunciationMeaning
क्या?Kya?What?
कौन?Kaun?Who?
कहाँ?Kahaan?Where?
कब?Kab?When?
क्यों?Kyoon?Why?
कैसे?Kaise?How?
कितना?Kitna?How much / How many?
💡 Key insight: In Hindi, question words go at the beginning of the sentence — just like English. So "यह क्या है? (Yeh kya hai?)" = "What is this?" — easy to remember!
Day 7

Your First Full Conversations

Combine everything from Days 1-6 into real conversations:

ConversationHindiPronunciation

❓ Frequently Asked Questions About Learning Hindi

Can I really learn Hindi in 30 days?

In 30 days of consistent daily practice, you can absolutely reach a solid beginner level — greetings, introductions, basic conversations, numbers, family vocabulary and simple sentences. Full fluency takes longer (typically 4 to 6 months with a tutor), but 30 days gives you a confident, functional foundation that most people never reach through casual self-study.

How many hours a day do I need to practice Hindi?

Even 20 to 30 minutes a day is enough to make real progress following this 30-day plan. Consistency matters far more than intensity. Three short sessions per week with a native tutor plus 15 minutes of daily practice is the fastest proven path to fluency.

Is Hindi hard to learn for English speakers?

Hindi has some unique challenges — a new script (Devanagari), grammatical gender, and a different sentence structure (Subject-Object-Verb instead of English's Subject-Verb-Object). However, many learners find it surprisingly accessible because words are pronounced exactly as they are written, and native speakers are extraordinarily welcoming and patient with learners.

Do I need to learn the Devanagari script?

Not immediately. Many beginners start with spoken Hindi using Roman transliteration (like the pronunciation guides in this page) and learn the script later. However, learning Devanagari early does significantly accelerate your progress because you stop relying on approximations and start hearing the language as it truly sounds.

What is the difference between Hindi and Urdu?

Spoken Hindi and Urdu are largely mutually intelligible — the everyday vocabulary is very similar. The main differences are the script (Hindi uses Devanagari, Urdu uses Nastaliq) and formal vocabulary (Hindi borrows from Sanskrit, Urdu from Persian and Arabic). If you learn conversational Hindi, you will be able to communicate with Urdu speakers in most everyday situations.

How is learning with Hindustani Tongue different from using an app?

Apps give you recorded audio and exercises — but nobody corrects your pronunciation, adapts to your pace, or notices when you are confused. At Hindustani Tongue you get a live 1-on-1 lesson with a native Hindi tutor who builds every class around your specific goals — whether that is speaking with family, travelling to India, or advancing your career. The result is dramatically faster progress and genuine speaking confidence. Your first lesson is completely free.

How long does it take to become fluent in Hindi?

With 3 to 4 lessons per week using the immersion method, most students at Hindustani Tongue reach conversational fluency within 4 to 6 months. Full advanced fluency typically takes 12 to 18 months of consistent practice. The key is starting — every day you practice Hindi takes you one step closer.

Is this 30-day plan suitable for children as well as adults?

Yes — the plan works for learners of all ages. Children often progress even faster because of their natural language acquisition ability. At Hindustani Tongue we have specific tutors experienced in teaching children aged 6 and above, using games, songs and storytelling to make learning Hindi fun and memorable.

💡 Tips to Learn Hindi Faster

  • Practice speaking out loud every day — even just 10 minutes of talking to yourself in Hindi builds fluency faster than silent study
  • Watch Hindi films and TV shows with subtitles — Bollywood is the world's best free Hindi learning resource
  • Listen to Hindi music and try to understand one new lyric each day
  • Label objects in your home with Hindi sticky notes — immersion in your environment is powerful
  • Use spaced repetition for vocabulary — apps like Anki help words stick in long-term memory
  • Speak with a native tutor as early as possible — pronunciation habits are hard to break once formed
  • Set a specific goal — "I want to speak Hindi at my partner's family dinner in 3 months" is far more motivating than "I want to learn Hindi"
